IAN SMITH
Ian Smith worked on that first Zap festival in Brighton. We became close friends and he was master of ceremonies at the Zap when we set it up in 1982 in the New Orient Hotel. He was a key figure in its development. We performed together in duos and group performances including the Wild Wigglers and together created the performance Surfing Religion and many other projects. When we both moved to Glasgow, UZ frequently commissioned Ian and his partner Angie’s company Mischief La-Bas to make work. Ian was one of the first artists to work in residence at Chandrasevana (later Sura Medura) and returned there three times.
