UZ Events

UZ Events brought together the expertise of two very ambitious companies – Unique Events and Zap Productions – to create large-scale festivals and events, often operating on an “instrumental” level to generate economic and social outcomes as much as pure art for art’s sake. UZ Events strove to negotiate the inevitable contradictions, particularly between art and consumerism, through programming radical and innovative artists and entertainers and supporting Scotland-based artists with a policy of commissioning new work wherever possible.

The first festival, Shine On Glasgow, included the Coca Cola Christmas Tree whose design as a beacon and platform guaranteed that work had to be remade or commissioned to appear upon it.
