IN SITU ‘Side by Side’ Seminar

From 24th – 28th February 2014 UZ Arts co-hosted the IN SITU Network’s ‘Side by Side’ seminar, in Stirling.

IN SITU is Europe’s primary network for art in public space and the ‘Side by Side’ seminars provide an opportunity for producers from across Europe to introduce to each other projects being developed by exciting, innovative artists who are working in public space, encouraging cross border collaboration between the attending artists and producers.   Much of the work presented will be developed, supported and toured by the IN SITU producers.

In bringing together of this group of producers and artists the seminars aim to stimulate discussion around innovative and often groundbreaking approaches to art in public space being explored by the delegates and provide a window into what is going on at the leading edge of practice in this sector.  The week featured intense development work as artists presented the seeds of their ideas and projects. A series of group working sessions then allowed delegates to explore ideas and potential directions for development in more depth with the artists.

UZ Arts Director Neil Butler says, “IN SITU has had a major impact in giving opportunities for Scottish artists to collaborate across borders and have their work seen internationally. It has also generated hundreds of thousands of pounds to support programmes to be presented to Scottish audiences and over the past 10 years audiences measuring tens of thousands have enjoyed work produced by IN SITU coming to Scotland.”

Delegates from across Europe took part in the seminar, representing some of Europe’s most significant festivals and creation centres including:
